Mrs. Sharon Gross is the choral director and Chairman of the Performing Arts Department for Irving High School.

Information, assignments, music in sections, practice tools for choir.

All Choral students have the opportunity to participate in various vocal competitions and events that are offered throughout the school year. Some of the events include Texas Music Educators� Association (TMEA), University Interscholastic League competitions (UIL Solo/Ensemble and UIL Concert/Sight-reading Contest), The IRVING High School Musical (tba for February 2009). All Choir students sing at the Irving HS Homecoming Football game. All A cappella Choir students sing for Baccalaureate and Graduation!!!!
Please refer to the choir calendar as posted on this web-site and Blackboard for all students. This calendar gives you every required event for choir.
The choirs are separated into 4 sections: Singer Company, Acappella, and Treble and Men's choirs.

Acappella choir
Placement in this ensemble with approval of Ms. Gross and/or audition. Members of this ensemble will participate in the Choir Rehearsal night scheduled for all A cappella Choir members. Monday afternoon (designated dates announced) 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. is currently assigned -combined rehearsal with 1st period, Ms. Gross and accompanist. They perform up-beat music, jazz, pop, gospel as an independent ensemble. They sing all Acappella Repertoire.

Singer Company/Acappella choir
PLACEMENT IS WITH APPROVAL OF MS. GROSS AND/OR AUDITION. MEMBERS OF THIS ENSEMBLE PERFORM WITH PERIOD 5 and are also members of THE ACAPPELLA CHOIR. MONDAY AFTERNOON - 5:30 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. IS CURRENTLY THE ASSIGNED DESIGNATED REHEARSALS (DATES TO BE GIVEN) WITH Ms. Gross, Period 5, and accompanist. SINGER COMPANY IS AN ENSEMBLE THAT HAS BEEN A TRADITION AT IRVING HIGH SCHOOL FOR MANY YEARS!!!!!!!!!!REPERTOIRE INCLUDES ALL A CAPPELLA MUSIC, PLUS JAZZ, POP, GOSPEL, BLUES, Show tunes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Men's choir
This choir provides an opportunity for new students at Irving High School, continuing choral students from Middle School and first-time choral students. This ensemble is also a performing ensemble. This ensemble is open to all boys interested in choir and is an all-boy section of Concert Choir.. An audition is not a pre-requisite. Students sing all types of music--popular, traditional, jazz, musical theater, gospel.
Treble choir
This choir provides an opportunity for new students at Irving High School, continuing choral students from Middle School and first-time choral students. This ensemble is also a performing ensemble. This ensemble is open to all ladies interested in choir and is an all-girl section of Concert Choir. An audition is not a pre-requisite. Students sing all types of music--popular, traditional, jazz, musical theater, gospel.





Announcements!!

Please remember that all Choir students are required to pay $25.00 Activity for rental of Tuxedos and Formal Choir Uniforms. You will also receive your choir t-shirt and rehearsal CD's.


Acappella Choir Rehearsal!
We have a scheduled rehearsal on Monday, April 19 for ALL A CAPPELLA members and Tuesday, April 20, for all SINGER CO members. Please be here, this is a requirement. These are the final rehearsals before our final concert of the year: the Spring Concert. Anyone wanting to perform a solo, duet or ensemble for the concert, stay after rehearsal Monday night and be ready to go thru the ENTIRE song exactly as it will be on Thursday.

Final performance of the year!!! :( Thursday, April 22, 2010. 7pm, @ IHS auditorium.--all A Cappella members, Singer Co, and concert choir; soloists/ensembles will also be featured.
